Design of Heat Pump Systems

OFTEC approved qualification

This course is intended for anyone involved with the design of heat pumps, the specifications of technologies and components of heat pump systems.


It is intended that the course should align with MCS standards for heat pump designers by providing specific training to enable engineers to design compliant, effective systems with confidence. By increasing the skills & expertise in the sector, it is expected that consumer confidence will grow prompting growth in the sector & contributing to the UK’s clean energy goals.
 
Course Content:
 
The course explains the key elements of heat pump heating systems and the requirements for designing low temperature heating and hot water systems in dwellings. This course will cover:
 
  • The sizing of systems and selection of components.
  • Latest relevant legislation.
  • Ground source collector circuit design and sizing.
  • Open and closed loop systems.
  • heating circuit design requirements.
  • Energy efficiency.
  • Pipework.
  • Heat emitters.
  • Low temperature hot water system design inc. bivalent systems.

    • Pre-Requisite
     
    Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing work or heat pump design work for a period of not less than two years.
     
    Or
     
    Alternatively have ‘on the job’ heat pump design experience for a period of not less than two years.
